Power the radio on.
Set the volume to a usable level.
Open the squelch fully, then dial it up just enough to silence the static.
Confirm the radio is set to the INT channel group.
Switch to the distress and calling channel.
Select a working channel and set transmit power appropriately for routine traffic.
Tune to a working channel (NOT 16 or 70), then press PTT, speak, and release.
Make an Individual DSC call to the saved test station.
Acknowledge an incoming Individual DSC call.
Send an All Ships urgency announcement and complete the voice follow-up on CH16.
